ELAC Parent Meeting

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners. The purpose of ELAC is to advise the school principal and the staff about the programs and services for students that are learning English as a second language.

Spirit Week Next week!

Aloha Spirit week August 27th-August 31st. Monday, August 27th – Neon day – “let’s show how bight and shiny we are with our school spirit. Wear the colors of the ocean reef.” Tuesday, August 28th – Tacky Tourist Day – “Let’s celebrate and show our respect to the diversity of our school community! Are you still learning what it’s like to be at SOM?” Wednesday, August 29th – “Fire vs. Water”: “7 th graders wear RED 8th graders wear BLUE It’s time to team up! Who’s the most spirited?” Thursday, August 30th: Hawaiian Day : “Say “Aloha” to Southwest Middle School and our first dance! *Show peace and kindness towards everyone on campus!” Friday. August 31st: “O’hana means Family”: Welcome to the SOM family! Wear any SOM Spirit Shirt!” Please, no props, hats, beanies, spaghetti straps, short shorts, cropped shirts, open-toed shoes, etc. Please, when in doubt, do without! That means, if you’re not participating in Spirit Days, please wear your school uniform

WHAT is ELAC?

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Cada escuela pública de California desde el Kindergarten hasta el grado 12, con 21 o más estudiantes debe formar un Comité (ELAC) para asesorar en programas de aprendices de ingles. El ELAC es una Comisión de padres u otros miembros de la comunidad que quieren abogar por los estudiantes de inglés. El proposito de ELAC es aconsejar al director y al personal de la escuela sobre los programas y los servicios para los alumnos que estan aprendiendo ingles como segundo idioma.
