African American History Month

In February we celebrate African-American History Month. While SOM presents multicultural curriculum and perspectives throughout the year, we take time in February to further shine a spotlight on all the many contributions that African-Americans have made throughout history. During morning announcements, students will hear about an African American influential figure who made a positive impact on our world.

This week’s spotlight include:

  • Monday- Mae Jemison: Astronaut, Physician
  • Tuesday-Dr. Audrey Penn – Neurologist
  • Wednesday-George Crum Invention: The Potato Chip
  • Thursday-Michelle Obama, former First Lady, lawyer, spokesperson, writer
